Following a devastating local ice storm and resulting cleanup several years ago, I thought I'd see if mother nature could help me find the beauty side to this destructive force. After walking for more than an hour through waste high ice-encrusted grass in very flat overcast lighting I looked back over my shoulder and spotted the large white tale deer close behind me. She grunted and bobbed her head, warning me to move along. I turned away like I didn't see her prepped my camera zoom lens for a quick photo and after turning around, spotted not one but three deer, all watching me. I may have sounded like the bull in the china shop walking across the silent but frozen landscape, yet these interested deer approached me in total silence. A few quick photos, one more grunt and head bob from the lead deer, and I moved noisily on my way through the frozen grass with a prize winner, thanks to mother nature and being there.
