The Meandering Rabbit. While I was returning from a hike just after sunset on a cold winter day I came across this view of rabbit tracks partially melted into the frozen lake. The rabbit must have meandered back and forth putting down this pattern of footprints in the quickly melting snow. After the sun set the melted snow turned to ice, reflecting the warm glow of the sky along the horizon. Snow along the bank across the lake, mostly in shade from the leafless trees during the winter, was still unmelted by the winter sun, and blue in color from the open sky above filling in the shadows.

Thanks for your very thoughtful post Barbara. I find myself posting my personal artwork instead of my work related assignments because these photographic discoveries have more meaning to me.

"peripherally" ~ I like that! Perfect word for an ability to find beauty in things that most people pass by in their oblivion. I find joy in discovering these treasures. It is refreshing to find those who share this mindset. Your portfolio is filled with insightful beauty.

WOW! How interesting. I loved your explanation. Looks like a case of being there with your camera at just the right time.

Thanks for your comments Barbara and Ann. It is a combination of being there with a camera (of which I purposefully went out with on this cold winter day) but also what I call seeing 'peripherally', not so much what you came for but what you find along the way. It's a little like a scavenger hunt without a clue list. This type of subject matter is not what you set out to find but instead what you stumble upon. I feel fortunate that I was able to see it and thankful that it was still waiting there for me to find it.
