After Mama past away I felt funny about taking photos of her like it was taboo or something that you just shouldn't be doing. I took about 5 photos of her that day plus I was alone when I did it so no one would know. I'm so happy now that I did it. Brothers and aunts all have one. I think it was a way of letting go.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I recently lost my Mom too. A week before she passed, she asked my daughter to give her a spunky haircut. Then my daughter took photos of her "posing". I don't think I would have taken the picture because she looked so sick, but it ended up being a favorite for all of us. She had that spunk in her eyes 'til the very end. I'll bet your family is really grateful that you took that photo!

Beautifully done image; there is no taboo as long as there is a bonafide requester from within the family, and in this case you are that person. If you happen to check daguerreotypes on your browser, you might find a good many post-mortem images from the 19th century; the Daguerrean Society has some. John Steele
